Volunteer Opportunities

NAGARA has several volunteer opportunities available exclusively for association members. The association is seeking ambitious individuals who have a desire to help NAGARA grow, reach higher plateaus of success, and achieve its mission of championing good management of government archives and records programs for the benefit of government and its citizens!

If you desire to serve and wish to give back to the government archives and records management community, this is your chance!

Communications Committee

Helping the association achieve its goal to “Enhance the image and reach of NAGARA”

Members of this committee will work alongside the NAGARA Board of Directors, Committee Chair and staff to help NAGARA enhance its image and reach. We know social media is the most popular communication medium of our time. Members of this committee will be designated to advise, monitor, manage, and draft and post content to the association’s social media accounts (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and Instagram accounts). Committee members will also take charge in drafting creative content for NAGARA’s quarterly e-newsletters. Volunteers may draft content, find interested contributing authors and gather interesting articles published by other news websites related to the archives and records management industry for NAGARA member consumption. This committee will work alongside NAGARA’s management company, who will send out materials to members.

Membership Committee

Helping the association achieve its goal to “Expand the base of those served by NAGARA"

Members of this committee will work alongside the NAGARA Board of Directors, Committee Chair and staff to recruit new members, retain current members, and serve the NAGARA membership base at large. Additionally, committee members will work with NAGARA on seeking out new and exciting benefits for members, enhancing current benefits and increase outreach to potential members.

Professional Development Committee

Helping the association achieve its goal to “Offer well-respected and desirable educational training opportunities to our members"

Members of this committee will work alongside the NAGARA Board of Directors, Committee Chair and staff to grow and enhance the Local Government Archives and Records Administration Certificate (LGARA) Program, assist in the management and evaluation of LGARA applications, assist in the planning and management of regional forums, and help recruit presenters and ideas for NAGARA webinars. Members will help create NAGARA-originated content as well as explore options for association-hosted courses/classes for the LGARA certificate.

Professional Content Committee

Helping the association to "Develop a robust professional resources library and online knowledge base for our member's benefit"

Members of this committee will work alongside the NAGARA Board of Directors, Committee Chair and staff to seek out existing content and/or curate new content for NAGARA’s Resource Center on the website. The main objective of this committee is to provide easy access to a treasure trove of essential resources that can aide and assist NAGARA members at all levels of government. This includes, but is not limited to: developments in the field, position papers, programs, reports and website links on governmental archival and records programs, and website links to industry-related surveys.
