NAGARA Congratulates Dr. Colleen Shogan on her Confirmation as 11th Archivist of the United States

(Washington, DC) - The National Association of Government Archives and Records Administrators (NAGARA) congratulates Dr. Colleen Shogan on her confirmation by the U.S. Senate as the 11th Archivist of the United States (AOTUS) and the first woman to hold the position permanently.

NAGARA looks forward to learning more about her vision for the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) and how it can fulfill its critical mission related to public records. Dr. Shogan and the staff of NARA have a number of essential issues to address in the coming months and years: the backlog of access to veterans’ records, changes to Federal declassification requirements and procedures, the ongoing transition of Federal agencies to fully-digital processes, and a rapidly changing landscape of digital information.

NAGARA also looks forward to building an important relationship with the Archivist of the United States and working together in support of NARA's mission, and to support the thousands of governmental archival organizations and tens of thousands of government archivists and records professionals across the United States.
