Session 6 - Mine the Gaps : Uncovering What You Don't Know About Your Retention Schedule
Every RRS is a work in progress due to organizational changes, legal changes, mergers, acquisitions, etc. Every records manager likely knows their RRS is not complete--there are gaps, but most will confess that they "don't know what they don't know". How do you uncover those things you don't know? Three fundamental activities will help you mine for the information needed to fill those gaps:
- Creating a Systems Inventory
- Interviewing stakeholders
- Regularly conducting legal research
This session will delve into how you go about those activities, including best practices, pitfalls, and real-world examples. It will help attendees understand the building blocks of an effective records retention schedule, and how to keep it maintained, including tools that can be used to do it efficiently with a small team.
