Session 13 - Inclusivity in Descriptions, Metadata, and Captions

As professionals we must ensure that underrepresented and minority voices are present and anchored in our holdings. In this session, we will explore how the utilization of techniques like background tagging and integrated descriptions in the early stages of accessioning and processing can not only increase the inclusivity of archives but allow for greater diversity. Attendees of this session will gain a greater understanding of techniques they can use to increase diversity and inclusion within their holdings.

Keeping the conversation open and constant about these issues and problems in the archive's profession is the best way that we are going to eventually mitigate these problems. Collaborating with ideas and techniques helps opens new doors and pathways for all archive's professionals.
