2026 NAGARA Annual Conference | Workshop
AI, But Make It Useful: Empowering Teams to Unlock Practical Use Cases
Target: Federal, Tribal, State, Local, Public Institutions of Higher Learning
Focus: Technology/Tools
Levels: Beginner, Intermediate
GARA: Forthcoming...
Overview

Everyone wants to use AI, but success depends on choosing the right use cases and preparing people to adopt them. Organizations often struggle not because AI is ineffective, but because projects begin with unclear goals, unrealistic expectations, or insufficient workforce readiness. This results in stalled initiatives, resistance, and missed ROI.

This interactive 4-hour workshop equips participants with practical frameworks to both identify meaningful AI use cases grounded in real business needs and data realities and prepare their workforce for successful, ethical, and sustainable AI adoption.

Drawing on real-world examples and current AI trends relevant to Records & Information Management (RIM), the session emphasizes when AI is appropriate, when automation is sufficient, and how people-centric change management enables adoption.

Participants will move from idea to action, learning how to evaluate AI feasibility, scope, and strategic fit, while also assessing organizational readiness, workforce capabilities, and change impacts. Through guided exercises, breakout activities, and real-time audience input, attendees will leave with a clear, actionable approach to AI initiatives that deliver lasting value.

By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to: - Identify and define AI use cases that align with real business needs, data availability, and organizational priorities - Distinguish between rules-based automation and AI approaches (machine learning, generative AI, analytical AI) to select appropriate solutions - Evaluate AI initiatives for feasibility, scope, risk, and strategic fit - Translate AI use cases into actionable implementation roadmaps - Assess workforce readiness and identify skill, trust, communication, and governance gaps - Apply people-centric change management strategies to build trust, reduce resistance, and drive adoption
