SESSION 2A: "Participatory Archiving: Skills and Tools for Building Inclusive and Diverse Archival Collections"

 

2A OVERVIEW: This thought-provoking session addressed participatory archiving - a collaborative approach to documenting and preserving local and community histories. The presenter explored the role of archivists in working with historians and community members to build inclusive and diverse archival collections.

Participatory archiving has the potential to address gaps in collections related to race, equity, accessibility, and diversity by welcoming individuals from all socio-economic levels, cultural groups, and political affiliations. This session provided valuable insights for archivists on how to play a key role in building a more inclusive archival record and understanding of shared histories.

2A SPEAKER: Dr. Michele A. L. Villagran

 

Dr. Michele Villagran is a prominent consultant, presenter, and founder of CulturalCo, LLC. In addition, she is an assistant professor with San Jose State University School of Information. Dr. Villagran’s expertise is conflict management, cultural intelligence and the understanding of diversity & inclusion. She holds a Doctorate of Education in Organizational Leadership from Pepperdine University, a Masters of Dispute Resolution and Certificate of Dispute Resolution from Pepperdine University, and a Master of Business Administration in Strategic Management and Master of Science in Library Science in Legal Informatics from University of North Texas. Her expertise, credentials and own diverse skills position her as an authority in cultural intelligence, conflict, diversity, and emotional intelligence.
