SESSION 1: "Six Essential Project Management Concepts for Information Managers"


OVERVIEW: This exciting session kicked off the 2023 Winter Online Forum addressing the importance of project management in the field of archives and records management! This session introduced attendees to 6 key concepts essential to successful project management in the field, including:

  1.  Differentiating projects versus running the business work
  2. Explaining the lifecycle of a project
  3. Defining the deliverables for a project
  4. Creating a work breakdown structure for projects
  5. Effectively assigning roles and responsibilities for projects
  6. Implementing tools that will lead to more effective project meetings

The material covered in this session is ideal for both newer information managers and established professionals who haven't received previous project management training.

SPEAKER: Holly Dolan, PMO Manager, Denton County Technology Services
 

 

Holly Dolan is the Technology Project Manager for Denton County, Texas. After joining the world of local government in 2016, Holly quickly learned that a little enthusiasm goes a long way. In 2022, Holly transitioned from her role as Denton County’s Records Management Officer to work full-time on project management. Holly hopes to use her skills as both a records manager and project manager to bridge the gap between IT and the records, archives, and information professions. She holds an MLS in Archives and Digital Imaging from the University of North Texas and is a Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM) through the Project Management Institute (PMI).
