OVERVIEW: The celebration of Seattle's 150th year of incorporation was an opportunity both to promote the resources in the Archives and increase awareness about the Archives. The focal point of the celebration was publication of a book, but the path to publication was an important part of the journey. Preparing for the book included gathering support from City departments, identifying content to include all geographical parts of the city as well as many different voices in different time periods, and conveying to the writers themes we wanted to bring out. The book and associated celebrations were an opportunity to bring City employees together and commemorate work done through the years by all employees. The celebrations spilled out into the community and garnered media coverage and other outreach opportunities. This webinar presentation will provide you with ideas about how to build support for and leverage outreach opportunities surrounding events in the history of your city, county or state.
