Abstract/Overview: The Security Compliance session is an overview of security research performed for State of Michigan Records Management Services for the following regulations; National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS), Social Security Number Privacy Act, Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI), IRS Publication 1075, Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and State of Michigan Policies. This research primarily focused on requirements and security controls that apply to record storage services for physical and electronic records, and the services provided by vendors and contractors for RMS. The overview for security compliance includes; strategies for researching multiple security regulations, identifying security requirements that are specific to your organization, analyzing applicable security requirements for compliance, and performing a gap analysis for non-compliant and partially compliant requirements.
Some learning objectives include; how to tie the research together to create a final product that makes sense. How our organization addressed gaps to remediate or mitigate. Major lessons learned and recommendations.
